I'm a published author. I still can't believe I get to say that

I'm 52 and I've been writing this novel on and off since my kids were little. Honestly, I never thought it would leave my laptop. I was so nervous before the first call that I nearly cancelled, but my project manager made me feel like my story actually mattered. The edit was gentle but honest, the cover made me cry (good tears!!) and they handled all the Amazon stuff I'd been dreading. When the box of paperbacks arrived I sat on the kitchen floor and just held one for about ten minutes. To any first time author sitting on a manuscript: please just do it.

Tough love from my editor, and I'm grateful

Not gonna lie, when my edits came back I was a bit gutted. Two whole chapters flagged as dragging. I sulked for a day, then reread them and... yeah, she was right. The book is so much tighter now. My beta readers went from "it's good" to "I stayed up till 2am finishing it". That's the difference a proper editor makes.

Helped Us Get Clear on Our Marketing Direction

We brought in Australis Press Publishing because we wanted to be more focused in how we market Ando Living. We needed a clearer idea of who we were speaking to and where our efforts should go. Some of our first ideas were too broad, so they helped us narrow them down and be more specific about what to say and what not to spend time on yet. I liked having someone help us question our first ideas instead of simply moving ahead with them. The work has been fairly easy to follow, and we now have a clearer direction and a better sense of which areas need attention first. A little more time agreeing on the main goals and expected results at the start would make the process even clearer. Overall, responsive and collaborative throughout.

Nan would have loved this book

I wrote this story about my nan's farm after she passed last year. It's only a little picture book but it means the world to me. They found an illustrator who somehow drew the old shed and the chooks exactly the way I remember them. When I showed Mum the sketches she had to leave the room for a minute. We gave copies to the whole family at Christmas and it's on Amazon now too. Thank you for treating something so personal with so much care.

What I found most useful was the willingness to challenge our assumptions.

We knew what Intrepid Fox was building, but we needed a clearer way to take it to market: who to focus on, how to talk about the business, and where our marketing effort would have the most value. Australis Press Publishing was referred to us, and the work started with a lot of discussion about the business itself. Some of our early assumptions changed once we talked them through. We had been close to the product for so long that some things felt obvious to us but were not obvious to someone seeing the company for the first time. What I found most useful was the willingness to challenge our assumptions. They did not simply take what we said about our audience or positioning and turn it into a plan. There were a few moments where we had to explain why we believed something, and sometimes that made us realise we had not thought it through properly. The project was collaborative, with regular discussions, and they adjusted when our thinking changed without making the process feel rigid. The biggest result was clarity: a better understanding of our target audience and a clearer message for explaining what Intrepid Fox does. One improvement: we could have spent more time organising our internal information before starting, which would have saved some back and forth early on. Overall, a valuable outside perspective.

Lovely people, but the delays hurt

I want to be fair here because the editing on my memoir was really good. They caught things I'd read past a hundred times. But my formatted proofs came a week late and I'd already booked a launch at the local library and told everyone about it. Had to push it back and it was pretty embarrassing. Nobody was rude, I just wish someone had told me sooner instead of me chasing emails. 3 stars because the book itself turned out well.

Thanks for the honest feedback, Tom. You're right that we should have flagged the delay sooner, and that's on us. We've since changed how we schedule formatting so deadlines are realistic from the start. Glad the edit itself hit the mark, and congratulations on the launch.

the amount of work that went into making the content readable

Australis Press Publishing took fairly rough ideas from us and turned them into proper pieces of content. Sometimes we had a clear topic and direction, other times the starting point was little more than a few notes. They spent time shaping those ideas, doing the research to fill in the gaps, and writing the material in a way that was easier to follow. There was also quite a bit of back and forth on tone. We didn't want it to sound too formal or like generic AI content, especially since the subject matter can get technical quickly. What impressed me most was the amount of work that went into making the content readable. It would have been easy to turn our technical ideas into long, heavy articles, but they made a real effort to keep the writing clear. They also took feedback seriously. When we said something didn't sound like us, they adjusted it rather than defending the original version. The project was completed in stages, so we could review earlier pieces and give feedback before moving too far ahead. The main thing I would change is how much context we gave them at the beginning. We had a better understanding of the product internally than we realised, so some of that knowledge was missing from the first briefs, which meant a few early pieces needed more explanation and revisions than they should have. Overall, we ended up with a much larger body of content we could actually use and a clearer way to explain what iwantmore.ai does

Didn't know what an ISBN was 6 months ago

Total newbie here. I literally googled "how to publish a poetry book" at midnight and ended up with these guys. They never once made me feel stupid for my (many, many) questions. Trim size, bleed, ISBN, KDP... it all went over my head at first but they explained it step by step. My little poetry collection is now out in paperback and on Kindle and my dad has bought eleven copies. ELEVEN. Thank you!!

My old cover was embarrassing. This one actually sells

Ok, confession: I designed the cover for my first thriller myself and it showed. Sales were basically my mum and my mates. Australis Press redid the cover and tidied up my blurb, and within a couple of weeks I was getting sales from people I've never met. Seeing a total stranger leave a review on Amazon was such a weird, amazing feeling. Already booked them for book two.

Australis Press Publishing picked up our tone within the first few deliverables and kept it consistent.

Their ability to sound like us genuinely stood out. Handing over brand voice is nerve wracking for any agency owner, and most writers need months to get it right. Australis Press picked up our tone within the first few deliverables and kept it consistent across every format. They also understood agency workflows instinctively, which meant less hand holding and more output.
